The beach houses are of hardwood from a renewable source, rather than masonry, the
process and transportation of which are a notorious overproducers of carbon dioxide.
Central to the Barefoot concept is the fact that the beach houses are designed to be comfortable
without imposing upon the natural beauty that surrounds them. The permanent
foundations insure that the beach house is secure on its site but it is attached by footings
that allow it to be removed at any time.
The construction and furnishing of the Club reflect an overall respect for the environment.
Our electric cables are underground, for example. Another small, but symbolic feature is
that practically all light bulbs supplied to the beach houses will be fluorescent, much lower
in energy use and longer-lasting. Perhaps more importantly, our beach houses are of quality
wood, rather than the typical masonry houses seen in developments, and raised off the
ground to minimize the need for air conditioning.
The beach houses at the Club were specifically chosen by the Barefoot design team to include
Balinese two-tiered roof styling, allowing cool breezes to drift in from the bay.
This adds to the light and airy feeling in your home.
Low energy-use appliances, including air conditioners, are standard in our beach houses.
We provide other environment-friendly features, as well:
- Ozonated water, not chemicals, in the hot tubs.
- Salt water pool, reducing chlorination to an absolute minimum.
- Ceiling fans, replacing the need to turn on air conditioning at most times in
Dolphin Bay’s breezy climate.
- Use of recycled products, even the paper in this brochure, for example.
- Recycling bins for waste.
- Use of showers, not baths, in the beach houses.
- State-of-the-art step-down transformers for maximum energy saving.
